Summer 2011
Several summer programmes cover a wide age group of students starting
from III standard up to B.Sc. level and beyond.

Tiny-tots:

It is a ten day science camp for students from III to V
standards. Activities include simple science demonstrations, model
making, origami, visits to garden.

Science Camp:
These are ten day long science camps for students of VI standard
up to X standards. Students, of class VI and VII comprise Junior
batch and students of class VIII, IX and X form the Senior batch.
Students are taught basics of science by demonstrations and
laboratory activities.

Universe in the Class room:
Students are taught astrophysics for about an hour and a half
every evening. Participants are taught the use of star charts in the
evenings. Cloudy evenings are compensated by using the simulated sky
in the sky-theatre. They learn to identify bright constellations and
movement of planets. Hands on activities will involve simple
sundials, eclipse demonstrations, pin hole camera and the like.
Films on specific topics are also shown.

Summer Course for schools students:
It is a month long programme for students of VIII, IX, X and PUC
held on alternate days on a specific theme. These consist
interactive sessions, laboratory sessions, demonstrations, film
shows and visits to relevant laboratories of Indian Institute, of
Science, Raman Research Institute, Indian Space Research
Organisation, National Aeronautical Laboratory. Experts from various
institutes deliver lectures to these students.

From Web of Life to Universe -
Summer programme for college students:
This is a aimed at B.Sc. students of both life sciences and
physical sciences. Senior scientists from Indian Institute, of
Science, Raman Research Institute, Indian Space Research
Organisation, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, National
Aeronautical Laboratory conduct interactive sessions and interesting
science movies also are shown. Special lectures by physicians about
relevance of physics and biology to medical science are the
highlights.

Workshop on Indian Astronomy:
This is a 3 day programme to give exposure to the techniques of
prediction of eclipses from actual observations, hands on activities
and computations by the method followed in ancient India for
prediction of eclipses. This is open to anyone with knowledge of
trigonometry and requires active participation on all the 3 days.
Participants are advised to bring calculators.
